Ethiopia: Largest English weekly angers Sheraton Addis

Why did the Sheraton Addis closed its door on the largest English weekly paper in Ethiopia?: “Bad news for the paper that claims to be the largest English weekly in the nation.Fortune isn’t going to darken the doors of Sheraton Addis for an indefinite time. The popular private weekly made a strategic error by allegedly getting itself on the wrong side of the tycoon, Sheik Alamudin.”

THERE IS A SAYING IN ETHIOPIA,THAT SAYS:”WHEN A POOR SLEEPS WITH A POOR A BEGGER IS BORN.”
THIS MAN “SHEIK ALAMUDIN” IS AN ICON TO THE ETHIOPIAN ECONOMY; HE CONTRIBUTED BOTH HIS WEALTH AND HIS SOUL TO THIS COUNTRY, ETHIOPIA, IN GOOD FAITH. TELL-TO THE ENGLISH WEEKLY, PLEASE, PLEASE, THINK BIG; THINK RICH.

The Fortune newspaper should have known what to say and who to criticize in a country where the independent press is wiped out of existence following the election fiasco in 2005.

Though owned and financed by the government, like its sister publication, The Reporter, sometimes even these masked state-owned tabloids make a blunder under the assumption that they work for the regime, and are immune from a slap in the face. It is a silly mistake, Mr. Fortune.

I would like to express my great admiration to the Sheik for bringing thousands of job opportunities for our country. 100% Al Amoudi is a true Ethiopian, his passion towards Emama Ethiopia; doing useful, important, truly valuable and creative things in investment on top of introducing our country……..would have been rewarded for doing things that helps a lots of Ethiopians I would like also to thank him……

Check your facts before you make comments. Fortune is a private English weekly, not a government outlet. And you know for a fact that no other paper stands on par with it in the country.Fortune simply excels!!
Bravo Fortune! We are previllaged to have a paper like U.

What does a letter written to the editor by someone who stated opinions have to do with Sheraton or the Sheik? The Beyonce CONCERT did not have anything to do with Sheraton Addis. Fortune did nothing wrong in printing the letter as it does not criticise anthying other than people tyring to make easy money. Even if it DID criticise – where is the harm in constructive criticism?

And i know personally people who lost mobile phones and wallets at teh concert. just because they paid 1000 birr does not mean they deserevd to have their property stolen. Obviously someone couldn’t have SEEN these things happening. go back and read the letter to the editor before making rediculous speculations.
