Global Voices is a virtual organization where laptop computers serve as foreign bureaus scattered across the globe. Though we frequently meet online in our IRC chatroom, we also meet offline and in person once a year in order to get to know each other better, brainstorm ideas, discuss issues and have fun.
Global Voices grew out of a one-day conference in December 2004 at Harvard Law School which brought together bloggers from around the world to discuss ways in which the new medium could foment global dialogue at the grassroots level.
A year later, the Global Voices community met in London for our second annual meeting, which focused on how bloggers and mainstream media coul work together to further the interests and goals of both groups.
In December 2006, Global Voices authors and advisors met once again, this time in Delhi, India, for a two-day meeting where we put our heads together and tried to come up with innovative ways of extending the global conversation to communities such as non-English speakers, those who aren't represented in the blogosphere, and those who contend with online censorship.
In 2008, Global Voices will be meeting in Budapest (June 27-28) for our biggest Summit ever. See the Global Voices Citizen Media Summit website for more information.
