Sierra Leone election update: “If you don't know by now let me be the first to say that THERE WILL BE A RUN OFF….No political party will be able to get 55% of the votes in this first round. Also there are many of my friends in the diaspora who believed the APC PROPAGANDA MACHINE and have been circulated a preliminary result form printed in AWOKO Newspaper….those results are not valid and do not represent the current picture.”

why result so late. This may course a different filling to the poblic and at the end another problem my occure.is it a free and fear ellection? why resolt so late
One needs time to verify inorder to come out woith a credible result. The election resul is like that of Palestine with HAMAS -APC-RUF about to win? This is worrisome to many who remember how APC mismanaged the country. The way people voted on tribal lines is equally worrisome.Who ever wins must be cautious about a winner takes it all. Peace is till fragile and we need statesmanship from the new leader.
Mr. Foday Koroma like many other and myself share the same feelings but you need some patience because the chair person is just like a chicken in the oven with heat on top and under. She got to be very careful to avoid silly mistakes. The father of Democracy delayed election results about two months six years ago. your country is just in an anticipation stage. Bravo to you.
This election has shown that Sierra Leoneans are prepare to uphold the true values of democracy and are begining to understand that the governance of a nation state is about providing the basic necessities for the people. Over the years, it appears that the current ruling party has failed the people thus the need for change. whichever Party comes to power will know that failure to deliver the goods to the people risk wining the next election. For Sierra Leoneans the process of changing a government vai the ballot box is the best way of punishing a fail government.
I have heard and read a lot about the way people have voted in this election. Trebalism, regionalism and sectionalism have been identified as the way people voted. As a political scientist myself this raised a serious concern. The good news is, Sierra Leoneans have been able to identify these issues now. This means we can deal with the problem as quickly as possible before it will be too late. One possible method is a coaliation government between APC and PMDC. A coaliation of this type will kill trebalism, regionalism and sectionalism. If a true democratic process is to succeed in Sierra leone, we must promote the sense of nationalism in a positive way alongside democratic values. I was born in Bo, my parent are from the North and I grew up in Freetown. So what is the problem?
I share the thoughts with Edward Fatums, APC ruling Sierra Leaone in a short while will definitely hamper the peace in the sub region. Without winning the cohorts have started threatening people. Let alone they win. God bless Sierra Leone. APC MUST NOT rule Sierra Leone so shortly. They need longer time to reform properly for the sake of democracy.
I don’t understand the reasoning of some people. If the SLPP has managed the country well why would the APC be dominating them the way they are doing. The government of Sierra Leone under the SLPP has been called one of the most corrupt in the world. Why do you guys think the most educated region of S/L (Freetown) overwhelmingly voted against the SLPP. Talking about voting on tribal lines? I just want to say that it is your people in the north and south who don’t want to change even when the writing is clear on the wall, the north has liberal people who vote wisely. Lastly, I know you guys are hoping to gain the support of Charles Margai to win any runoff elections, that will be the most crucial moment in margai’s political life, as it will make or break him. He just need to think of Osman Bangura, and Thaimu Bangura of the defunct PDP. If Margai really have any political ideals that he stands for, then I don’t think he will go back and lick his own spit, after all that has happened and how he was treated.
I am a sierra leonean. Now living in australia for four years. I have been following the elections via internet and digital televison. I stress to the sierra leone public to have patience and calm and allow for a fair election. I belive that if APC are in the lead by my investigations through the internet and digital television the sierrra leoneans in the western world wish nothing but peace and happiness for their country.
Please let us live peacefully. God Bless Sierra Leone And It’s People. No more fighting who ever wins stay true to our country.
I am worried over the comments from people like(Edward Fatums)above. For me personally such comments prove that even some of the so-called elite are not growing. How can you even think to associate any political party in Sierra Leone with HAMAS? No party is fighting for land ownership in Sierra Leone if you do not know Eddy.
Talking about mismanagement, Eddy please come and grow.
I do not know of any government that was/is not guilty of mismanaging of all the resources both internally and externally of that Country. Please read the common comment from all commentators all over the globe about CORRUPTION AND MISMANAGEMENT IN OUR NATURALLY WEALTY SALONE.
I am personal praying for a Leader who is a’SIEERA LEONEAN INSIDE TRUE AND TRUE’
Hi,
Can i come in a bit. if we want to assess the election in sierra leone let us be frank. the election in sierra leone has shown the whole world that the ruling party cannot just come and fool people and sit in power for as long as they want as if it is a family property. this time the people has exercised their rights to say no to the ruling SLPP party. let me tell you the fact that it is KABBA who spoil the party and they were exposed when president Ghadaffi visited freetown.why didnt he sell the 2 ships rice to the people of sierra leone instead he send it straight to Ghana.wicked man.God will not permit them to seat in power again.
Fellow sierra leoneans let me tell you something that what God has destined no man can change it. this particular time God says Berewa should not rule sierra leone. so let us dont be labouring ourselves but depend on God.
i pray the SLPP will not try to manipulate the second rounds. let us continue to make the good name we have already make.let it be free fair and not free and cheating.bravo to Christiana THorpe keep it up and let the world knows you are not like James Jonnah
Unu Kushe fambul dem,
the people of salone have shown a lot of maturity so far…i dont care which of the two SLPP or APC wins the lections..in actual fact they are one and the same…when APC was in power for 27 year, some of these SLPP guys who wants to present themselves as mr clean, were there in the thick and thin of things…take Abass Bundu, he was Minister under Shaki and now vying for parliamentary seat under the SLPP…take sama banya and JB Dowda the list is endless..so where is the difference,..and if APC wins…you will see how many SLPP big vons will declare their support for the APC…”i realised my mistake and now am back to my root the APC which is only way out…” so let people dont fuss over this…
what we want is free and fair elections. so that the people will choose who they want at this time or risk returning the country to unwarranted and shameful bloodletting…
the real struggle will start after the elections and the new leader takes office…the struggle for better standard of living…the people are not fighting for anyones ideas in his/her head…they want peace, bread and basic services…Lonta
I am very sad to hear people saying that APC party was corrupt and mismanagement of goverment wealth. SLPP party proved that they are also corrupt and mismanaged the country wealth. What we should be praying for is to get a true leader probably a bit radical to move the country forward. Charles Margai gave contracts to his wife and family friends when he was a minister under the SLPP goverment. So i don’t trust him lead us. He is someone who do not consult his team most times when he needed to make a decision. He would decide on his own and inform them later.Lets pray for better leader& salone. I don’t care who takes over the goverment as long as they have vision and move the country forward. We need some one who is radical because salone is lawless at the moment. god bless salone.
Yusufu, I agree with you that there are wise men in the North and have voted wisely. The fact is beside the issue of trebalism it appears that two political ideologies separate the North and the South of Sierra Leone. I grew up to know APC as a centre left liberal party. Under the one party system in Sierra Leone, SLPP did not have the opportunity to demonstrate its political belief, but by the looks of things the party appears be a conservative party bent on building a special type of elitism in Sierra Leone. During the rule of the SLPP I visited Sierra leone five times and saw how a special class of people emerging. I am talking of a class structure where the few are living in luxury gated houses and feared and the majority living in gettos. I hope APC will learn from these mistakes of the SLPP. Luntan.
I am a Sierra Leonean, with a British citizenship and I am a Mende from Kenema. I have not personally benefited from any of the political parties of Sierra Leone in the past, being SLPP or APC. I have always worked very hard for myself to complete secodary edocation in Sierra Leone, with the help of my diseased parents before leaving for U.K where I now live for the past twenty years with my wife, (also a Sierra Leonean and culturally groomed Mende) and our four children, all borned and now growing up in UK. Thank God, Britain has presented me with the opportunity of living a decent life and becoming a millionaire throgh genuine hard work.
Which ever political party wins, my only main interest is whether that party would allow me to complete the community development project I have recently started in my home town (identity witheld), involving the constuction of 200 houses, renovation of motor roads, construction of bridges and institutig of vocational education complex involving secondary and tertiary
education system.
Although my parents are not now alived (killed during the civl war and whose graves I have not still or may never set eyes on), I think it would be evil of any party in power to prevent me from helping to develop my birth place to the best of my ability, regardless of whosoever is in power; whether Solomon Berewa or Ernest Koroma.
Therefore, good luck to the winner who may have good and genuine intention for Sierra Leone; and with no tribal or regional sentiment in front of leadership.
I applaud all of you for being able to comment on the situation in Freetown. This shows that people are realizing the problems of our country; I do hope that in doing so would bring about the necessary changes that are needed to take Sierra Leone to the next level. That level where one would be able to see progress prevail, People would be able to go to work and get paid, Children will be able to go to school to get the education needed to survive in today’s world. One would be able to go to the hospital and get attention, and to be able to get clean water and light for once. Keep it up you all.
Personally, I applaud my fellow sierra Leoneans living abroad and demonstrating concern over the ongoing election. It exhibits a heartfelt love to our motherland. I have been living in the U.S. for about eight years now, but my hearth and soul still belong to Sierra Leone. Yet, sometimes I am worried-worried about the fact that some of the statements made at this site absorb regional and tribal sentiment. It is not time for us to learn that this is the very scheme that drags that country into 11 years of bloody civil war? I don’t care who wins or lose the current election. All I know is that who ever comes to power will have a monumental task in front him; a task brought on by one of the most senseless wars (which we should be ashamed of) in human history that, would probably takes another 50 to 60 years to amend. The best we can do now is to join forces with who ever come to power to rebuild that country. And please let stop playing the blaming game.
I am a sierra leonean who have lived in the united kingdom for over 17yrs. My heart and soul has always been been with my people home and abroad. I am really happy with the outcome of the results, congratulations to all those who voted APC. I really feel SLPP has let all sierra leoneans down, we desperately need a change, whatever the outcome of the run-off, we know that the majority needs a change in our country and their voices have been heard. Myself and all sierra leoneans home and abroad are just praying for a free and fair and peaceful run-off.
Politic everywhere else in the world is not a perfect sience. The theme here is tolerance of each other for the good of the nation. Sierra leoneans are fatally competitive, our political ideologies, afinity is harmful to an extent that tribalistically polarized the nation between north versus the greater southeast. It has made us the poorest nation in the world, with a wealth of resources not found anywhere else. We are at all times pointing fingers at one group or the other failling emencely to do the functions required to settle this small country to remain peaceful to allow outside investment that is indespensable for national development. Berewa and Koroma will never have the funds to develop Sierra Leone, if the country remains on a war foot. Love each other, work together to make our beloved Sierra Leone to attract Western European and Asian investors to develop Sierra Leone and also make profit without threats from segments in the nation to burn down their businesses, no matter where developments are put. I lost 5 brothers,2 sisters and many relatives, who were going about there business in the hinterland and not involved with the war issues and politics in freetown. I hope Sierra will grow out of this and go forward. Thanks to all as the opposing foes, who know best to make our beloved nation to grow and go forward. God Bless all of you in your endeavors and God bless who wins this election. Le us love each other and stop committing hainous crimes against each other, making us appear as the most stuppid and laughing stalk of the world; we have the best diamonds in the world but we are not able to prepare the country, I mean Sierra Leoneans to enjoy the wealth in peace and live freely. Thank you all for making politics a perfect science, not possible elsewhere. Sierra Leone will never be a perfect country, there are tribes, regions and groups that are going to compete or munipulate each other like husband and wife but still love each other, learning from each other on a daily basis for the good will of the Sierra Leonean families of this world.
It doesn’t matter who wins the battom to state house. Thank god the election had been closely monitored and considered by international observers as free and fair. in deed, it is a stepping stone towards political and socio-economic recovery. I think what sierra leoneans wanted to see now is patriotic and tranparant government. Turning the coin on the other side we would also like to see constructive opposition party (s) serveing as watch dogs in the interest of all sierra leoneans. Bravo to the young musicians in sierra leone their messages has now started to reach the masses. Please keep it up.
I am a sierra leonean living in the united states. I have no objection to which party wins the election, but let me ask every sierra leonean “isn’t it time for new political parties to emerge in sierra leone?. Both the so called A.P.C and SLPP parties have failed the people of sierra leone. It’s time for new breed of politicians in sierra leone instead of recyled APC OR SLPP politicians who move back and forth from SLPP to APC and then from APC to APC. Aren’t we all tired of seeing the same old faces in politics. What can we really proud of as sierra leoneans after thirty eight years independence?. Sierra leone has been classified as the poorest nation in the world, eventhough we nave a lot of natural resources. Sierra leone has suffered decades of exploitations by both SLPP and APC.lET’S DON’T VOTE ON SENTIMENT WE WANT SOMEBOBY WHO IS READY TO MOVE SIERRA LEONE FORWARD AND PROJECT AN IMAGE OF SIERRA LEONE THAT WE CAN ALL PROUD OF. LONG LIVE SIERRA LEONE !!!
Please leaders of sierra leone let be smart enough this time to sellect the right person that will us in the right way of humanity and let be patience to wait for the election result.
My belove people of sierra leone, I will like to say this, that S/L do not need any political party to come and brain wash us but we need someone who will be in a very good position to lebrate S/L from its past terror which destroy the future our country. S.L.P.P, A.P.C, P.N.D.P ETC………. ARE NOT WHAT WE NEED!!!!! BUT!! someone that have love for the people, someone who can improve education, health care, infrastructure etc.. and that the someone S/L needs so Brothers & Sisters be smart and think brave this is Sao Bockarie from United State.
I partly agree with Sao Bockarie, but the point is that one person will not be able to do it. It’s going to take a group of people with the same idea and interest. to be able to make that change. One person would be easily influenced by the bad crowd and easily taken down. And most of all tribalism should not be a part it.
Hello,
I am a sierra leone living in SWeden,my heart is for Sierra Leone to Liberate to leberty,My desire is for the nation to have a God choosing leader.
Not only the Presidential seat but also the Parliamentary sectors and MInisters.
Fellow Sierra Leoneans, most of us have been following the elections back home. One thing is clear and that is, the people of our country have spoken loud and clear. THEY WANT CHANGE.Sierra Leoneans are no longer in slumber. There has been improved level of awareness. Gone are the days when people will accept sugarcoated words from politicians. What Sierra Leoneans are now saying is that they will give politicians the mandate to control our resources but if they mess about, they are out irrespective of whatever party in power. So whoever will be in power, should be ready to learn and learn with an open mind or else sierra leoneans will use their democratic power to kick a dysfunctional government out of office. Bravo to NEC, Bravo to all Sierra Leoneans.
All Sierra Leoneans must applaud the effort made by NEC and government of the day, to one of Sierra Leone’s best historical electoral benchmarks. It was explicably unimaginable that our government and people contributed imensely for a positive and flawless election process. This is a sign leading our nation to a path of sensible and responsible leadership. I also owe all security forces, for example; police, special security forces, criminal investigation department including the military establisments for their willingness and preparedness in taking a proactive stance to comfotrtably handle the security situation at a time of peril and bitter resentments. I personally believe our nation is deeply divided in a manner consist to tribal bigitory including anilation of other discriminatory pardons of behavior. My suggestion to every Sierra Leoneans is to refrain completely from all wreckless and reprehensible statements; anticipatory for selfish political purposes. I further warn average citizens not to fight or engage in any lithal confrontation from either sides, because whoever wins will have to adhere to the following: Pledge of partisan allegiance
Enhance family allegiance
Think about themselves
Lastly, think about the nation.
So you benifit nobody if you choose to kill or be killed. Please save your breath for you are one future potential leader of your country. As many rightly mentioned, it dose not matter who really wins, but one ready to sacrifice, apply both interllectual and culturally co-existing wisdom and awillingness to demonstrate tolerance, honesty and integrity.
I will say more next time.
Respectfully Sincere,
Ahmed Alfred Bowling.
Sierra Leone enjoy your first pride to a path of honesty and never attempt to erode this unbeatable challange. Please walk peacably to the run-off schedule for September 8, 2007 and excercise your constitutional right and vote your heart and conscience. I will profoundly appreciate who is desperate to divorce trbalism, nepotism, sectionalism and vote on issues vital to our national interest. What Sierra Leoneans must do is to throw the past behind and focus on participatory partnership and reconciliatory actions aimed at accomplishing development oriented seeking solutions. Its about time we feel confident that we can show good and vibrant leadership on the global platform. Let us join crusaders like the US and UK to advance and accelerate human civilization and to upgrade the standard of living of our people. Please be enticed for peace and vote for peace and development. Please rebuke the clasless politics of hate and babarism, and do not allow yourself to be bambuzzled. The election is your God given right, but direct the power into what will resurrect our nation from unacceptable political misdirections.
I will tell you more in the next message.
Love you sweet Sierra leone.
Ahmed Alfred Bowling.
My appeal to all Sierra Leoneans is that the time has now come when we must stop thinking with our hearts and start thinking with our heads. When we think with our hearts, we are dealing with emotions and sentiments and this will take us away from factual thinking. Factual thinking helps to differentiate between peoples personal opinions and hard visible facts.
We pray for a government that will be able to identify and accept that social problems in Sierra Leone are real and must be tackled. The first step in dealing with any problem, is to accept that there is a problem ie unemployment, water, electricity to name a few.
May God continue to bless our motherland(Sierra Leone)
My grief about APC is this: When they were in power in the previous decades they believed in thurgry so much. This time also, they have not won the election, just because they lead in the parliamentary they started to threaten people by giving notice to people from Freetown. Look NO Northernern should think Freetown is for them. BLANTANT LIE. FREETOWN is Sierra Leone and Sierra Leone is for Sierra Leonean. People are just silly in thinking.
For Charles Margai, i agree with one of the writers saying Margai going back mean shartering his politiacal ambition. This is tru and remain the truth even where he alies with APC. Let’s say the fact, with APC, Charles Margai will NEVER be considered to lead the APC party; so absolutely he has shartered his political ambition as was in the case of Thaimu Bangura. Let’s all hold on for the sake of peace, go to the pull on Saturday and accept the result as it would come out. I know tribalism is now glaring in Sierra Leone but we must be very gentle and democratic in our behaviors.
Again, some of you are just talking here because of talk sake. We MUST not be a hypocrit to ourselves. We are all quite sentimental and tribalistic as far as politics in Sierra Leone goes. Even where we are conscious that somebody can not deliver the good, we vote him just because he speaks my language or he is from my region. This is terrible. We need to examine the current contendants and vote objectively. Annes Koroma needs long term lessons in democratic process. He is just a business man with little or no carisma of democratic principles. His blood is caked with one party system and will definitely mess around the good democratic process already in progress.
look.. just drop it.. nbo one aint gon see yo lil comments about this election i mean cmon!! george bush dont give!! all he cares about is stealing oil from the middle east!! and poor thise poor other middle easterns are suffering because of him!! soooooo i think yall should shut up and go to bed
I am a sierra leonean living in australia for six years, and a mende from kenema. The people of sierra leone should have to think twice before voting the APC in power. Think of what the APC did in the past beating innocent people and putting them in jail, and also burning down their houses because they were supporters of the SLPP. My fellow sierra leoneans let us vote in the SLPP this time again and see what develoment they will bring to our beloved sierra leone.
We are hoping for a better SIERRA LEONE and a better FUTURE for that poor WAR TURN NATION. people of sierra leone VOTE wisely as the FUTURE is in your HANDS.and we are expecting a 90 percent turn out of the RUN-OFF have no fear to go out and get your LEADER. WE HOPE TO SEE AND HEAR A FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS INEC. ”THANKZ AND GOD SAVE SALONE”…
go out there and vote for a better salone and better changes that will make salone again the pride of AFRICA once more before will live this planet earth
Some of us are older than most of these people writing these articles. Psychology predicts that it takes more than half the lifespan of a relationship to be dissolved. At the beginning, there were no regional devides in Sierra Leone. Then the politics of division was premeditated by the one party system, to control the majority by the smallest of all the tribes in Sierra Leone. Two presidents and several vice presidents were appointed from a minority, totally taking the largest ethnic group from political scenes ( an unpresidented act). The country Sierra Leone was dragged from been the envy of all Africa with their educational system to the dumpster without a major imput of the majority. Them the people of greater South East( from mile 91 to Koidu and Kiondu at the far east to join with each other for survival, since they became the victims of the APC regime. At this point in Sierra Leone they have become almost sel-suffucient and have lost every taste of favor for Apc. The people of the greater South East have realized their political power (4 million from 6 million from world demographics)since democracy has been institited in the constitution. You may call it tribalism or regionalism; this is a political reality that must be recognized and respected. What ever was the intention of leaders in the 70s through the 90s has gone beyond their initial plans, with greater consequences for the planners, now an enormous advantage for the victims. Let the leadership of Sierra Leone realize today that the people of the greater South East are ready to nulify that previous status quo, but at this moment, I think they should be in control to determine and guide the destiny of Sierra Leone slowly forward to what it was in the Sixties, then lead this country to true peace and traquility setting the stage to again welcome outside investors to rain, no matter what anyone says or wants.
Sierra Leoneans have a projector bill board mirror in front of each one of us; stating that we are looking at the ugliest beast of the world. We must not look for that ugly beast elsewhere or behind that mirror in our abstract imagination. It is a relfective mirror, my dear; that ugly beast is what each one of us is seeing in that reflective mirror in the front. Crying for tribalism, regionalism will not solve the problems. There must be detailed and constructive interraction and dialogues on this issue with all intensions to difuse the sensitivity of the situation that appears to be overlooked. My personal salute to Mr. Berewa, Mr. Koroma and Mr. Margai, who are all aware in depth and I hope that they are going to work vigorously to change it for the better.
May the Lord provide wisdom to all for the RUN-OFF.
Ahmed Alfred Bowling:
I do respect people’s opinion, but I will strongly disagree where ever lies any expresssd thought of tribalism. I do bvelieve that a Sierra Leonean is easily associated to his/her political preference based on the criterion of people’s family name. It is deregatory to media our opinion in any manner justified by discriminatory expressions. At this point we must all grow in our political analysis and try not to make judgements in haste. We must look at ourselves as one people, one nation and not in the divisive mende/temne perspective. This is a long time struggle to accomplish the true definition of change and development. I believe whoever wins; deserves to because only a Sierra Leonean is mandated by the constitution to run for electoral offices, based upon this criterion, all candidates aspiring for the top seat are legitemately and legally qualified irrespective of their tribal origin.
I do believe that opinions are free but facts are sacred so lets speak our minds. We all know that Most discussions here are sentimentally motivated even as some may think anyone is good enough.
Let me just say this today again that “all these debates about politics and power struggle is about self-actuallization” whether good or bad. In most cases the common man/woman just stand for what they want but not what is good for them.
However, We cannot blame them alone for their ways of thinking because they, like the very leaders themselves donot know what is good enough for their people.
I believe our God is not a selfish God and therefore for every NATION he had provided enough to satisfy their WANTS but their GREEDs. There would be no problem if those in authority where are to be paid a wage of a middle class worker with no prefential treatment of any kind. We can see that the quest and struggle for power is all about satisfaction of their GREED. THERE IS NEVER EVER ENOUGH TO SATISFY YOUR GREEDS.
Fellow Sierra Leoneans, most of you might think I’m a foreigner because of my name. Fortunately, you are right, but my dad is a Sierra Leonean and my mom is a Liberian, so I believe I have the right to speak about my father’s land.
Now, about the election in sierra leone, choosing a president is the most important of all for a country in political views. We all know how long we have struggled from our unreasonable war. Many of us are still lost about the eruption of civil war in sierra leone, whether is tribalism or greed or something else. Maybe somebody who is older might explain the non-fiction story about our civil war. Is this how it started? The beginning of this present election seems to be one of the peaceful election in west Africa, but now we are loosing it. Does is matter who win the election, I mean all that matters here is who the belove people of sierra leone will vote in as the president. We just need somebody who can really listen to his people and re-build our lovely country. My dad said in the seventies and eighties our country was peaceful, the money was valuable and nobody goes to bed hungry, but now we are the second most poorest country in the world. Now I don’t care what tribe or who ever the president is, all I care about is a president who can listen to the voice of our fore-fathers and the people of sierra leone including the children. I’m presently here in the US, and I always talk to my dad of visiting sierra leone, now i’m tired of waiting for peace to revail. so please, all the leaders of sierra leone come together as a nation not as tribes and re-build the land of your fore-fathers and mothers.
Good luck to all the presidential candidates
hello all, am so happy they way people of sierra leone have gain awearness and tired of suffering, this time of the century the people of sierra leone has to choose thier own leader and not by selling thier votes to the wrong canadiate who is not going to deliver what the nation is expecting.
am a concerned sierra leonean based in the united states of america and i have been monitoring the election through the internet and by calling home to confirm what i have read. by God’s grace we will have the right canadiate this time, the wind of God’s grace is incessantly blowing. The present government will not seat in power for as long as they want this time the people of sierra loene will remove them by voteing,it goes without saying.we need someone who will managed our resoures,to get good education, dicipline, constructive, and fullfill your promises, so our people will live a better lives.
MAY GOD BLESS OUR LEADERS AND DIRECT THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS FOR THE COUNTRY AND MAY GOD BLESS SIERRA LEONE.
I just left S/L august 28, I was sad about the then S.L.L.P party about breeding tribalism in most govenment jobs. Most offices were held by the mendes and marginalising the other tribes as if they are the only educated tribes of S/L.Infact they are just square pegs in round holes.Immediately they took power they started removing people that are not mendes in most government jobs. I am a citizen of U.S and former student of N.U.C the mendes are too tribelistic so they are not to rule S/L WHY?because the west actually did see it and that is the reason of not getting a single seat in the city.
The thing that amazes me is how greed can convert well educated people to ill- breds. These sinisters have suppress our counrty so bad that the foundation is about to give in. South Africa took one of their few natural resources (diamond) and build their nation. According to a program on the discovery times our diamond exporting right is granted to less than seven people (foreigners)who decide how much dread crumbs to give the workers in the mines. We have more natural resources than districts yet there is only one nation in the world that we are doing better than. I pray to God every day for people in my country to stand up and make that country what it should be. The only thing in life we most fear is fear it self.
Bockari Ngamoh, Jenneth Tutu Kebbie huna hush yaaa! My fellow sierra leoneans have finally realized that you should not judge a man by his tribe but by the content of his character. For that say thank you and kudos to the Mende people who voted for change. You know I went back home last April after ten years all I saw quagmire. Young girls are forced in to prostitution, no medical plan for the citizens what so ever, 7 out of 10 people are living on less that a dollar a day. No sanitation system. Since I got there up to the day that I left the clock tower at eastern police said 2:55. If SlPP can’t fix that clock all this time(10years) what makes you think they are capable of leading.Leadership_ the ability to keep people moving in the right direction by example, persuasion, and guidance. I pray that all of us lay our tribes down and try to build a better nation for our childern and grand children. The west has been good to some of us. America gave some of us opportunities that our mother’s land never gave us. But at the end of the day there is no place like home.
My fellow Sierra Leoneans, I am a Sierra Leonean living in London for many years it is with great pride and yet great concern we should view this election. Pride in the sense that democracy is at it best in that an opposition will dear win an election in a country like ours where not very long ago it was a one party state. And concern that we are very divide along tribal lines. Are we not all Sierra Leoneans first and foremost? Should we not be seeking the interest of the country first? We should be united in holding our leaders into account, questing and analysing their every move. Sierra Leone is ours and we should all be united in looking after Her. May God bless the Land that we love and God bless you all.
Ladies and gentlemen, I’m encouraged by most of the posts I’ve read so far, which tells me that there are still some who cares about that poor little country. And believe me this is what we should be doing: embracing one another and reminding ourselves that we can make it.
Now elections are over and the winner has taken the throne, what’s next? While most might be thinking that that’s the end of things, I’m here to remind you that this is just the beginning. The new leader will need the support of the people of Sierra Leone in order for him to succeed. This is not time to sit back and relax only to complain again of the evils that the government has perpetrated on the country, as it is typical of Sierra Leoneans to mess up, abuse public property, public funds, boycott their maths lessons in school, only to start blaming the government of the day for their status on the social and economic ladder.
Look, here is what we have on our plate now, a new president, an old party, a relatively peaceful “new” country. These qualities collectively make it a brand new second-hand country, but hey, we can still develop it if we want to. Already there are good signs, because for the very first time in the history of the country we had a system where an opposition has won elections. What do we do next? Where are we heading? Remember there is no electricity in Freetown and in most areas of the country. We all know that Sierra Leone is famous for impoverished roads, poor health conditions, very low wages, wars, tribalism, illiteracy, to name but a few. Bumbuna Hydro is still unfinished. But at the same time it’s the country that is sitting on top of some globally envied precious stones among other strategic minerals and a vast arable land. Hey, our country is rich!
Are we going to continue wasting time on sentiments? If someone from another tribe does well why not give the credit they deserve and move on? We should be looking at more profound things - important things that will bring a lasting solution to the problems listed above and which, to my knowledge, no political party has ever managed to solve completely. So many northerners experienced unemployment and went to bed hungry during APC’s 27 year rule and likewise so many in the south did during the SLPP era.
The question that we should be asking ourselves is: “what has Mr. Koroma and APC got to offer us the people of Sierra Leone?” So far we have had successful elections, though with some minor problems here and there, but we came out of this without war, which is commendable at least for a country like ours, which is just emerging from a terrible war. On this present, planet it is impossible to have an election that doesn’t report even a the smallest irregularity. Hey, even the America that everyone is looking up to had polls from Florida in their last election that had some question marks. So what do you say about that?
At this point, I must say bravo to His Excellency Ernest Koroma, the APC and the people of Sierra Leone for victory in the elections. On the other hand, I must say bravo to Pa Kabba and SLPP for facilitating the peace that we all enjoy in Sierra Leone today and most especially for making such a heroic move and handing over power to the deserving winner of the 2007 polls. This has proved that we are ready for change and still we have sincere people in our country, which we must be proud of. If you do not know what I’m talking about, and if you are someone who follows the news, then please count how many countries in Africa whose leaders have tampered with the constitution just for them to be allowed to rule for the third, fourth, fifth or lifetime.
Veterans of democracy will prove to you that a change of government is a healthy practice for any promising democratic system. But another big question: will Mr. Koroma do what Pa Kabba has just done, when he handed over power to the rightful winner? Let’s hope he does what the people of Sierra Leone expects of him, as we need this to be ongoing thing.
Now to you and I, what are we going to do for the land that we love, Sierra Leone? We cannot continue to be proud of seeking refugee on another man’s land. It’s the same earth let do something to change our own portion of it. Besides, everyday you are reminded that you are a foreigner there, no matter what your contributions are or no matter how you try to change your accent to sound like them. It doesn’t make sense if we keep bragging about another man’s country. By doing so, we are just adding the wrong feathers to our hats, because these are the results of the hard works others have done to make their country what it is today, the benefits of which you’re are enjoying. Considering that anyone else can by one way or the other enjoy the very previledges you sign about, so try and make your reason for moving out of your own country meaningful by learning some engineering, trade, economics, management, politics, science, medicine etc. and bringing all of those ideas to develop Sierra Leone like some are doing for their countries.
Advocating for sentiment is not the answer to our problems, I believe that all Sierra Leoneans, who have hands and feet should work hard so that we can afford the things we want in this life, in this way we live as free people and not having to dance to someone else’s tunes, or vote for them just in order for us to gain favour or earn a living: this kind of thing is absolute laziness. Wake up Sierra Leone!!!
If you work hard and stay away from evil you will see good results. Rome was not built in a day so stop thinking that some political party is going to make you a millionair over night, or even if they do believe me it is not without some horrible strings attached that will destroy you in the long run.
Personally, the results of this election did not change anything in me other than the fact that I see this as a step higher in my country’s democracy. And I do not intend to sell this freedom in exchange for anything. My policy has been and will always be hard work. I live and work in China. After passing my GCE exams with a Distinction and with three A-levels I got a scholarship, came and studied Engineering in China. Now I work for a good US company as a well-respected Mechanical Engineer and I commute between China and America every now and then. And I’m planning to take this education and experience to go and develop my country in due time. Likewise, I know there are a lot of my countrymen/women out there with even better qualifications who could do wonders in that country if they wanted to.
Elections are over, what do we do next? This is just the beginning. Fula, Temne, Mende, Loko, Lomba, Krio, Soso, Madingo, Yalonka, Kurankor, Sherbro etc. all make up the beatiful Sierra Leone that we have.
So, please fellow Sierra Leoneans, lets us stop hating and destroying one another and join hands together, embrace, accept and respect one another , work hard for the bright future of our country, Sierra Leone.
I’M FROM THE NORTH BUT, ONE ADVICE MR. PRESIDENT DO NOT REVENGE OVER ANY TRIBAL INCIDENT THAT MIGHT HAPPEND BEFORE YOU. 2 THIS IS NOT A JUST A NORTHERN GOVERNMENT BUT A NATIONAL GOVERNMENT. 3. MAKE SURE ALL MAJOR OFFICES ARE OPPERATED BY MULTI TRIBAL BY QUALIFICATION EG.. MENDE,TEMNE, LIMBA OR ANY OTHER QUALIFIED GROUP NOT JUST ONE SET OF TRIBE EVEN IN THE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT. FOLLOW THE US WAY OF RULING BY NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW I BET YOU WILL SUCCEED. I LOVE THE AMERICAN WAY. WHY? IT DOES’NT MATTER IF YOU’RE GOVERNOR RICH OR POOR IF YOU BREAK THE LAW YOU WILL PAY FOR THAT.GOOD LUCK
First of all I’d like to warmly congratulate the people of Sierra Leone for their bravery in deciding the faith of the elections. As most of us living in abroad will agree, the recent transition of our democratic process is been praised for its overall fairness especially for a country like Sierra Leone that emerged from a very troubled and bitter past. I give special credit to Mrs. Thorpe for showing to the world that Sierra Leonean women can be as equally or more effective as Hillary Clinton, or Margarette Thatcher. She handled the Electoral Commission with extreme intelligence and delivered something unique that will always remind us of where most organizations have failed in the past. Bravo Madam Thorpe!
To our current leader, I say to you、develop a system. It may be very difficult for some Sierra leoneans to understand what I mean by the word “system”, but if we take a closer study of what’s going on in the West, Japan and even China, we can see that they have already established a system. This system covers areas like health care, tax reforms, housing, research(education) that form the backbone of any country’s social infrastructure. A standard code of procedures should be modeled for each sector of our social infrastructures under equal opportunities for all Sierra Leoneans. We are a nation that has been blessed by God with vast natural resources and beautiful land. All that politics need to do now is to properly manage those resources and deliver good services to the society in a professional way. To our leader I say to you, always ask God to be your greatest adviser. If you have ever been far from Him, it’s time to come much closer and call on him before making any decision. Don’t forget that bad politics usually comes from the seeds of the devil. So watch out for even your closest associates and be brave to make decisions that will be good for all.
To my fellow compatriots, young as well as old, please stop the tribalism sentiments. It breeds hatred and retards development. We should be ready to unite under one country as one people and show patriotism for our beloved country. Let’s pray for good governance and transparency this time.

Elections are now over in Sierra Leone. The tone of our converstions must now change to coming up with ideas and projects, books to help develop the total infrastructure of the nation. The question is “what you can do for your country; not what your country can do for you?”
I consider myself a Public Health Professional; attempting to provide relivant health research information to all of you, no matter where you live in this informative age.
I am seriously engaged on a research venture to help Sierra Leone in the medical services. My personal goal is to build a medical infrastructure somewhere in Sierra Leone to train Public Health and Medical services personel for our nation’s future. In this quest I have written four books and one of these books is now available for purchase on the internet. I am please asking or begging all Sierra Leoneans who can afford $20.00 to buy one of these books in order to make my dreams come through. This book called “From Harves to ou Dinner Table” is a Food Safety volume that can be useful to all households. As you may want to know, it is non political. The proceeds from sale should help my project to go forward. This book can be ordered at (www.atlasbooks.com or http://www.bookmasters.com); search for my book under new tittles.
Author’s point of view on Food Safety, is that there is a distinct difference beween food quality and food safety. The quality of food is mainly associated wth price, richness, and tast and sometimes with culture. On the other hand, food safety has no class, no gender, and no human color preference, and has never recognized culture. This means that when ever anyone (a farmer, messanger, president, queen, prince, judge etc)eat an unsafe food, he or she can get sick regardless of price that was paid for the food, how delicious it tasted; their position in residing community, their ethnicity or race. Food Safety is a management tool that can be based upon an individual or a group’s dedication and commitment to practice the proper personal hygiene, recognize, learn and follow needed health regulations, in order to consistently provide Safe Food and best of services to all at all times.
I wan my audience to know this distinction with Food Safety. Thank you for reading this article and may our God Bless You abondantly.

The polical season for now has ended and very few articles are being sent to the press as compared to the period of the election fever. Some are satisfied now that they have achieved their goals, while some still remain in quest. I have long since set a gaol, which I must achieve before I become content. My agenda is about Sierra Leone’s future and it has no relationship to political events there.
I have three blogging sites on my book “From Harvest to Our Dinner Table. Here are my sites for all of you there with real interest to build Sierra Leone for the better. ( vakanneh.blogstream.com/; muyeinnovations.blogstream.com/; and jojoima53.blogstream.com/;). Please review the articles at each site, may be there is something in them that can encourage you and friends to buy this book. Be engaged to help all of Sierra Leone. Thank you for reading this text and my the Good Lord (Alah) Bless you and your family.
